Joseph, I agree. Usually, people have to work 25 or 30 years for a pension.
I agree with both Joe and Jan 100%, but even working 20-30 years doesn’t guarantee a pension. Most pension plans have been replaced with some form of 401K. At least that retirement plan will stay with a person regardless of how many years they worked at one place and in some cases can be transferred if the worker changes employers. Some places will automatically cash in the fund to the former employee but can be re-invested in a private retirement account. Usually, a pension pays a fixed amount and is adjusted to a lower amount when the retiree draws Social Security. But as far as POS politicians getting a pension even if they serve only one term is complete b.s. A person in the military, which is a government job, has to serve at least 20 years before getting any kind of pension. Politicians should be forced into 401K accounts.
Don’t work for family no pension after 35 years.
